Why would anyone try out for a pantyhose commercial? Money? Fame? Because they think they're good looking (whether they are or not)? Such issues are explored in this fascinating movie.

In post-war Serbia, Goran Radovanovic took out an ad advertising auditions for a pantyhose commercial. The actors showed up, undressed, showed off their bodies, talked. The resulting footage reveals them in a vulnerable state: often good-looking but down on their luck in their depressed country, they are trying to look confident and capitalize on their appearance, yet not many really want to exhibit their bodies. It is an odd, semi-prostitutional state, which is further compounded by the unrelenting question: did Radovanovic tell them they were in a documentary as well as a screen test? Was he really hired to make a pantyhose commercial?

From a statement by the director:
"My intention was to make a documentary about the social and political transition of my society in the manner of a feature filmmaker. So, I started to set up situations, I started to lie. But nobody noticed it. None of the people participating in the documentary noticed that, as I was directing I was building up my big illusion. Simply because my setup was the same as reality."

Goran Radovanovic was born in Belgrade in 1957. He received a degree in art history from Belgrade's Faculty of Philosophy in 1982. After some time in Germany, he worked as a film critic, and since 1984 has worked as a writer and director of fiction and documentary films. In 2002, a retrospective of his work took place in Cinema Babylon, Berlin.
