On the evening of November 18, 1983, seven young Georgians with a dream, hijacked a Soviet passenger plane. The terrorist’s aim: a dramatic escape into the glittering west. What started out as a naive fantasy quickly became a nightmare whose events have left an indelible mark on the psyche of the Georgian nation.

Zaza Rusadze makes his directorial debut with BANDITS, a film retracing the roots of the escapade, its victims, its survivors and its myth. In the era defined by terror, BANDITS is a timely examination of the human side of terrorism.

Zaza Rusadze was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1977. He worked for Georgian State Television for several years. Since 1966 he has lived in Berlin. He studied film directing at HFF “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam. He is a member of the Georgian Artist Collective Goslab. BANDITS is his first long documentary film.
